The preeminent source of emissions data for the electric power sector, eGRID is based on available plant-specific data for all U.S. electricity generating plants that provide power to the electric grid and report data to the U.S. government. Data reported include, but are not limited to, net electric generation; resource mix (for renewable and nonrenewable generation); mass emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur dioxide (SO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), and mercury (Hg); emission rates for CO2, NOx, SO2, CH4, and N2O; heat input; and nameplate capacity. eGRID reports this information on an annual basis (as well as by ozone season for NOx) at different levels of aggregation.eGRID2022, released in January 2024 is the seventeenth edition of eGRID. <stepDesc>GeoPlan Center downloaded the EPA eGRID2022 year 2022 data in excel format from the following EPA website on 9/6/2024: eGRID with 2022 Data

Next, GeoPlan imported the eGRID2022 PLNT22 excel sheet from the eGRID2022 excel workbook into ArcGIS Pro. The PLNT22 excel workbook sheet contained 11,973 year 2022 records representing electricity generation plants. The PLNT22 excel workbook sheet was then exported from ArcGIS Pro as a database table. Next, the newly created PLNT22.DBF was spatially mapped using the LAT and LON fields containing WGS 1984 coordinates in decimal degrees. Records with no latitude/longitude information were removed from the data set. The newly created PLNT21 projection was defined as GCS_WGS_1984, and then it was reprojected to the FGDL Albers NAD 83 HARN projection. Next, a selection was performed on the State FIPS ID field where it was equal to 12 (i.e. the State of Florida). Several other power plants that skirted the Florida border were also included. The final record count was 278. Next, all of the field information was uppercased, and additional fields were added: NOTES, NUCLEAR, LAT_DD, LONG_DD, MGRS, GOOGLEMAP, DESCRIPT (based on PNAME), and FGDLAQDATE (based on the date the data was downloaded from the source). Certain points were moved, see NOTES field for features altered. Facility address information from the following website was used to help better locate the physical locations of the facilities: http://www.energyjustice.net/map/searchfacility-basic.php. The final dataset renamed EPAEGRID_2022.</stepDesc>
